Services for James Lee Smith of New Orleans, and formerly ofBrookhaven, are 11 a.m., Friday, July 26, at St. Mark M. B. Churchwith burial in Oak Grove Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from noon until 5 p.m. at WilliamsMortuary.

Mr. Smith, 70, died July 21, 2002, in New Orleans. He was bornin Lawrence County on July 25, 1931, to R. T. Smith and Gennie LeeMagee. He was a graduate of the Lawrence County Public Schools.

He was retired after over 25 years service with the Texas andPacific Railroad. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in NewOrleans, where he served as a deacon. He was an Army veteran of theKorean War.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, DorothyPorter Smith; and his son, Kelvin “Jap” Smith.

Survivors are his sons, Kenneth Smith and James Dickey, both ofBrookhaven, and Frank Smith, Michael Smith and Corey Clark, all ofNew Orleans; his daughters, Debra Williams of Jackson, and KarenManning and Deirdra Henry, both of New Orleans; his brother, JamesRobinson of Brookhaven; his sisters, Nell Shaw, Julia Smith, andLinda Myham, all of Detroit, and Betty Bowser of Natchez; and 18grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
