Services for Jessie Bernard Sanders Sr., of Benton Harbor,Mich., were 10 a.m., Aug. 27, at Macedonia Community Church inSodas, Mich., with burial in Fort Custer National Cemetery inBattle Creek, Mich.

Mr. Sanders, 80, died Aug. 20, 2002, at Lakeland Medical Centerin St. Joe, Mich. He was born in Brookhaven, Miss., on May 26,1922, to Doc and Zadie Sanders.

He was retired from Flamm Pickle Factory. He served 13 years inthe Army as a Master Sergeant. He was also a Mason. He was a memberof Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Rosa MaeSanders; his sons, Jerry Sanders and Robert Clay; his brothers, SamSanders, Tango Sanders and Bill Sanders; his sisters, GladysBenjamin, Willie Mae Sanders and Emily Gray; and a special friend,Viola Sailor.

Survivors are his sons, Carrel Smith of Renova, Miss., DavidBerry and C.W. Ford, both of Brookhaven, and Jessie Sanders Jr., ofBenton Harbor; his daughters, Carrie Crossley of Brookhaven, AmyBaker of Dallas, Texas, and Valinda Ishola of Benton Harbor; hisstepdaughters, Barbara Jean Jones and Barbara Ann Brown, both ofBenton Harbor; his sister-in-law, Fannie Cameron of Brookhaven; and27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; threegreat-great-grandchldren; and a host of nieces, nephews and otherrelatives and friends.
