The “what ifs” of Tuesday’s $3.8 million bond issue openedMonday’s recessed meeting of the Lincoln County School Board, withschool officials determing how to proceed should the bond issuepass or fail.

Superintendent Perry Miller requested, and board membersapproved, setting up a meeting for Thursday to approve the resultsof the election should the bond issue pass.

“This would allow us to move forward in getting things started,”Miller said.

Should the bond issue fail, he said, approving the results couldwait until the next regularly scheduled board meeting because therewould be no rush and they would need to reprioritize theirprojects.

The school bond issue would essentially cover a new classroombuilding on the Loyd Star, Enterprise and West Lincoln campuses; anew cafeteria building on the Bogue Chitto campus; and a new officecomplex on the Enterprise campus with renovations to add officespace at West Lincoln.

Other improvements include updating equipment and adding twoclassrooms on the Bogue Chitto campus and demolishing buildingsbuilt in the 1930s on the Loyd Star campus and an old gym on theWest Lincoln campus.

The old cafeteria on the Bogue Chitto campus will be keptavailable for future needs, Miller said, possibly a band hall ormore classrooms. Two new classrooms are included in the newcafeteria building.

Approval of the bond issue will require a 60 percent plus onevote majority. Only residents of the Lincoln County School Districtare eligible to participate in the bond issue election, and pollsare open Tuesday until 7 p.m.

In other matters Monday, Miller asked the board to create acomputer technician position for the district. They have one, hesaid, but the workload has grown and he can no longer keep up withthe demand.

Miller cited the growth in the number of computers in thedistrict and the age of some of the computers for the increasedworkload.

“We told (the existing technician) to start looking, but if youwill approve this tonight we can go ahead and hire one should wefind one,” Miller said.

The board approved the new position.
