Services for Vertis E. McEwen of Summit are 10 a.m., Thursday,Sept. 19, at Catchings Funeral Home Chapel with burial in FeldersCampground Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. untilservice time at the funeral home.

Mr. McEwen, 89, died Sept. 16, 2002, at his residence. He wasborn in Walthall County on Nov. 7, 1912, to Silas McEwen andCorrine Brewer McEwen.

He was retired from the Illinois Central Railroad with 33 yearsservice. He was a farmer. He was a member of Felders UnitedMethodist Church, where he served as a steward. He served on theJones School Board.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 52 years,Jewell Irene Kimble McEwen; his daughter, Patricia Fay McEwen; hisbrother, Emmit McEwen; and his sisters, Lula Mae Alexander, IdellBreeland and Alyene Clark.

Survivors are his sons, Jerry E. McEwen and Thomas V. McEwen,both of Summit; his daughter, Shirley Ann Dunaway of Summit; andfour grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
