WESSON – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers edged Wesson 7-5 Saturdaynight in a battle of division champions. Mandy Vinson (20-6) wasthe winning pitcher and Brittany King was charged with theloss.

Brookhaven (20-6), coached by Lisa Covington, hosts Quitmantoday at 4 p.m. in the opening round of the Class 4A stateplayoffs. Wesson (10-7), coached by Heather Laird, hosts GulfportSt. John today at 6 p.m. in the Class 2A state playoffs.

Brookhaven finished with 14 hits, led by catcher Kayla Princewith 3 singles. Leftfielder JaRonda Moore tripled twice. Secondbaseman Allyson Wallace doubled twice.

Left-centerfielder Chuvaqua Smith singled twice for Brookhaven.Third baseman Ashley Sykes and rightfielder Kensey Hoff doubled.Also hitting safely were Megan Bateman, Taylor Crane and LauraWaldrop.

Wesson was led by shortstop Millie Smith, rightfielder HayleyCarr, pitcher Brittany King and catcher Anna Johnson with 2singles. Brittany Smith, Mandy Morgan, Lauren Hutson and KateScroggin singled.
