Yellow Jackets bury Dexter

DEXTER – The Enterprise Yellow Jackets were in a must-winsituation Friday night if they wanted to remain alive in the Region4-1A playoff picture. The Jackets responded.

Enterprise (6-4, 5-3) put an impressive 50-21 whipping on theDexter Bulldogs and scored the largest number of points by a Jacketfootball team this season.

“It was a total team effort,” said Enterprise head footballcoach Ricky Deere. “It was the biggest win for us this season. Thiskeeps us in the playoffs.”

Enterprise travels to Bogue Chitto (4-6, 4-4) Friday night forthe final region game of the season. The Bobcats are coming off abig 14-13 region win over a tough Natchez Cathedral team atNatchez.

Enterprise collected 18 first downs and totaled 331 offensiveyards. The Jackets rushed the football 50 times for 238 yards. Theypunted once for 35 yards.

A six-yard run by Chase Raiford followed by a two-pointconversion pass-play from quarterback Justin Kyzar to Will Sicardput Enterprise on top 8-0 over Dexter early in the firstquarter.

In the second quarter, Jacket Terrell May scrambled for anine-yard touchdown and Scott Sasser kicked the PAT for a 15-0lead. Sasser kicked 4 of 5 PATs on the night.

However, the Bulldogs roared back for 21 points in the secondquarter to take a 21-15 lead over the Jackets at halftime.

Enterprise answered back with 15 unanswered points to take a30-21 lead at the end of the third quarter. Kyzar connected toBilly Reeves for a 10-yard TD and then hit Darren Brady for a30-yard score. Gerard Vaughn caught the two-point conversionpass.

In the final frame, Enterprise wasn’t going to allow a comebackby tough Dexter and tacked on more 20 points to secure the win.Vaughn scored a nine-yard TD, May rushed for a one-yard touchdownand Curtis Smith hit pay dirt on a two-yarder.

“The offensive line blocked well,” stated Deere. “We ran itbetter on them than anyone this year. Dexter (6-2) has a real goodquarterback and a big runningback.”

Vaughn powered the Jacket offense with 18 rushes for 87 yardsand broke the 1,000-yard mark with a total of 1,030 yards on theseason after Friday night;’s performance. May rushed 15 times for83 yards. Rushing for 34 yards on seven carries was Raiford.

Kyzar completed 9 of 15 passes for Enterprise and wasintercepted twice. Reeves led the receiving ranks with threecatches for 48 yards. Raiford made two catches for 29 yards. JamaalVaughn finished with one catch for nine yards.

Defensively, Josh Pruden led the Jackets withseven tackles and one fumble recovery. Derrick Clark also madeseven stops and had a quarterback sack. Dusty Smith collected fivetackles. Reeves had four tackles, two quarterback sacks and afumble recovery. Bobby Lambert followed with four tackles and aquarterback sack. Siciard and Raiford intercepted a pass.

“We played hard,” added Deere. “We played four quarters. It wasa big win for us. We felt like they couldn’t stop us. The defenseplayed another good game. We got a good effort out ofeverybody.”

Enterprise was penalized twice for 20 yards.
