Services for Mildred Smith Thurman of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial inNew Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thurman, 80, died Nov. 10, 2002, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. She was born in Lincoln County on April 18, 1922,to Alvin W. Smith and Eunice Lofton Smith. She was a graduate ofCopiah-Lincoln Community College.

She was a former teacher at Enterprise Attendance Center and wascafeteria manager at Lipsey Middle School. She was co-owner ofCamrick Electric Company. She was a member of Central BaptistChurch, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and helpedorganize the Baptist Young Women missions organization. She was amember of Baptist Women.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, RoyShelton Thurman; her son, Charles Richard Thurman; and her brother,A. W. “Sonny” Smith Jr.

Survivors are her son and daughters-in-law, William Cameron andJan Maxwell Thurman, and Myra Allgood Thurman, all of Brookhaven;her sister, Juanita Smith of Brookhaven; her grandchildren andtheir spouses, Chris and Kim Thurman of Clinton, Kelly Thurman ofBrandon, Ryan and Amanda Thurman of Hattiesburg, Candie Thurman andDonnie Copeland of Winter Haven, Fla., Sara Thurman and AnnaThurman, both of Brookhaven, and Tanner Thurman of Clinton; andseveral nieces and nephews.
