Benefit to help family struck by tragedies

BOGUE CHITTO — During a time of thanksgiving, residents cantake the opportunity to help a family that has struggled throughseveral tragedies during the past six months.
A benefit is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., Saturday in front ofCalhoun Gymnasium at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center for the Frankand Michelle Wallace family.
Fish plates will be sold for $5 each at least until 3 p.m., andpossibly later if there is a need, said Rhonda Wallace, a familyfriend helping put on the benefit.
“We’ll keep selling plates as long as people are still comingby,” said Rhonda Wallace. “We want to help them any way we can.They have had so much bad luck.”
The home of Frank and Michelle Wallace was lost to fire Nov. 14,in the midst of another family tragedy.
Frank Wallace’s sons, Joseph and Josh, were involved in a fatalaccident in September that claimed the the life of one of theirfriends and left Joseph and Josh hospitalized for weeks.
After the four-wheeler they were riding collided with a truck,Joseph and Josh were rushed to University Medical Center. Josephwas released a few weeks ago, while Josh made his first trip homeWednesday.
Josh Wallace’s condition was critical for the first few weeks ofhis recovery. He suffered a broken leg and deep bruise on the stemof his brain. He has underwent several surgeries and is stillrecovering from the injuries.
“He’s been improving tremendously,” said Rhonda Wallace.
Joseph Wallace, who also underwent surgeries for his injuries,was able to return to school at Loyd Star Attendance Center a fewweeks ago.
The boys’ accident was not the only one the family hasexperienced this year.
“They also have two daughters who were in a wreck in June. Also,Josh got snake bit before his accident and they had to fly him toJackson,” said Rhonda Wallace.
Frank Wallace, who works off-shore, has had to miss more thantwo and a half months of work to be with his children. His wife,Michelle, does not have a job, so the family has had limited incomeduring the last half year.
The family is currently living in a deer camp built recently byFrank Wallace’s father near the Wallaces’ home. They plan torebuild their home in the spring.
An afghan that was crocheted by family member Grace Wallace willbe raffled off on Dec. 21. Chances for the afghan can be bought atthe benefit or from family members. Donations can be sent to 3155Wallace Drive, SW, Bogue Chitto, MS 39629.

Fish plates include catfish, coleslaw, hushpuppies, baked beansand dessert. Tickets do not have to be purchased ahead of time asthe plates will be sold on the spot. Plates can be delivered tobusinesses in Brookhaven that purchase five plates or moreSaturday.
