Please, don’t litter!

Litter remains a problem on Brookhaven and Lincoln Countyroadways, according to results of a Keep Lincoln County Beautifulsurvey discussed at last week’s supervisors meeting.
The survey, which included visual evaluations of 90 undisclosedlocations around the city and county, gave the community an averagescore of 2.3 on a scale of 1-to-4 with 1 being no litter and fourbeing heavily littered.
The above average score is cause for concern. What’s moretroubling, though, is that the 2002 score went up and not down fromthe 2001 score of 1.95.
This is a trend that must stop.
That goal could be easily accomplished with just a little extrathought and effort by people when they are ready to get rid of sodabottles, fast food containers and similar items that wind up on ourstreets and roads.
“It’s really gotten down an individual choice of what you’regoing to do with your trash,” said Homer Richardson, surveycoordinator.
We agree.
People can put a litter bag in their vehicles, or they can holdthe disposable item until that get home and put it in the garbagebag there. Either option is far better than simply tossing thetrash out the car window.
