Among the many “Letters to Santa” we’ve received this holidayseason was one we want to share today.

“Dear Santa, come to this ghetto: We live poor right here inAmerica. My grandmother’s refrigerator went out a few days ago. Theplumbing pipes (are) all messed up. My grandmother is in poorhealth. Her back has gone out, (but) she can take us for smallwalks. I’m thankful for the food. This shelter needs work (for)protection from the weather …”

The letter was signed by a Brookhaven youngster.

This community’s generous nature will help the less fortunateenjoy the holiday season, too. Two agencies in particular — theBrookhaven Junior Auxiliary and Toys for Tots — are working toensure that needy children have gifts to open Christmas. We commendthem for their efforts, along with those who support theirwork.

While this is the season of giving, there are many otheragencies that work year round doing good things in our community. We encourage you to remember them with monetary gifts or with agift of volunteer service. A donation to the United Way of LincolnCounty would help many agencies carry out their mission here.

We don’t want Santa to forget anyone.
