BA sweeps Simpson Co.

MENDENHALL – Anna Gatlin pumped in 15 points, pulled down fiverebounds and made three steals Saturday to lead the BrookhavenAcademy Lady Cougars to a 51-32 win over the Simpson County LadyCougars.

In the boys game, Brookhaven Academy crushed Simpson 58-41.

Friday night’s scheduled games with Parklane had to be postponeddue to the slickness of the basketball floor. A cleaner had beenused and it made the floor slicker than expected. The floor hasbeen fixed.

The Brookhaven Academy girls, coached by Barry Gray, improved to17-0 on the season.

“I was very pleased with our performance in the second half,”said Gray.

Adding support to the Brookhaven win with 14 points, fourrebounds and four assists was Kelli Byrd.

Brookhaven and Simpson were tied 18-all halftime. The visitorsoutscored the hosts 16-8 in the third quarter and 17-6 in the finalframe to secure the win.

In the boys game, Brookhaven (8-0) got 19points from Craig Smith. Alan Oster netted 13 followed by JonathanWinborne with 12 points.

Neal Stephens led Simpson with 16 points.

Junior high games

Brookhaven (15-3) clipped Simpson 37-34 in the girls game. EmilyLangley’s 17 points and 10 rebounds led the visitors. Kate Hubbardnetted 11 points for Simpson.

Brookhaven Academy entertains Bowling Green Friday night. Aseventh grade game kicks off Friday at 3:15 p.m. followed by twojunior high games and two varsity games.

Saturday, Brookhaven Academy visits Copiah Academy for sixgames. The games begin at 12 noon with two seventh grade gamesfollowed by two junior high games. The varsity girls begin play at4:30 followed by the boys.
