Services for Mary Carolyn Hart Hopton of Jackson are noon,Thursday, Jan. 16, at St. James Episcopal Church with a privateburial at a later time.

Visitation is today from 4-6 p.m. and Thursday morning beginningat 11 a.m. at the church. Mark Seepe Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Hopton, 64, died Jan. 12, 2003, at Baptist Medical Centerin Jackson. She was born in Brookhaven and graduated fromBrookhaven High School in 1956. She was a graduate of BelhavenCollege and received her master of arts in voice performance atMississippi College.

She had taught music at Jackson Academy and Saint RichardCatholic Church School before teaching preschool at Jackson Academyand at Beth Israel Preschool. She was a member of St. JamesEpiscopal Church, where she was a youth group leader, Sunday schoolteacher, VBS music teacher, and a member of the choir for over 30years.

She served as president of Chaminade Club and in leadershiproles with the Jackson Symphony League and Mississippi Opera Guild.She sang roles in many operas in the Jackson area and was afeatured vocalist for Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Carroll Bankston Hartand Francis Hulda DuBose Hart; and her brother, Carroll BankstonHart Jr.

Survivors are her husband, Alfred Charles Hopton II; herdaughter, Alison Hopton Davis; her son, Alfred Charles Hopton III;her grandson, Brooks “L. B.” MacDonald Davis II; and her brothers,Frederick Wayne Hart of East Palatka, Fla., and Edward B. Hart ofRutledge, Ga.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
