WESSON – For a change, the Co-Lin men’s team was delivering themisery to an opponent Monday night in Mullen Gymnasium. Sophomoreguard Jason Scott pumped in 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as theWolves whipped Gulf Coast Community College 64-48 in a SouthDivision contest.

“We ran a five-man motion, coach’s favorite offense,” saidScott, who played his high school basketball in Ferriday, La. “Westepped it up on defense and executed like we did in practice.”

Scott, a perfect 12 for 12 at the free throw line, was followedby Jeremy Richardson with 12 points. The slender 6-6 freshman fromZachary, La. scored all of his points in the first half.

The Wolves improved their record to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in theSouth. The Bulldogs sank to 10-10 and 4-5.

Co-Lin head coach Dennis Sims said he was pleased with histeam’s performance. “We made shots when we executed. We got somepoints from our transition.

“Zach Baldwin did a good job coming off the bench and giving ussome excitement,” Sims pointed out. Baldwin, a hustling sophomoreguard from Magee (Simpson Academy) accounted for 5 steals, 5 pointsand 3 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Nick Mikell provided the Wolves with 6assists.

“We limited our turnovers and made our shots tonight,” saidCo-Lin sophomore Jerimie Collier. The Wolves sacked 53 percent oftheir field goal attempts and 88.9 percent of their freethrows.

Gulf Coast, coached by Wendell Weathers, got 16 points and 6rebounds from 6-8 freshman Davy Easterling of Chicago. Sophomoreguard Orlando Lewis of Gulfport chipped in 12 points.

The Bulldogs shot 39 percent from the field and a cold 33percent from the charity line.

Co-Lin built an 18-point, 41-23 halftime lead on the strength ofRichardson’s shooting which included 2 treys.

In the second half, Elliott Cowart hit a driving layup, Scottsank a layup and Mikell hit a short jumper, giving the Wolves a22-point, 47-25 advantage with 14:33 left in the game.

Co-Lin got back-to-back dunks from Carl Minor and James Hathorn,making it 53-35 with 8:03 remaining. The rout continued as Scottcashed in a steal with a 2-handed slam.
