Brook rips Raymond

RAYMOND – The Brookhaven Panther baseball team swept adoubleheader from the Raymond Rangers Saturday. Brookhaven won theopener 3-2 and the finale 16-4.
The Panthers, coached by Randy Spring, improved to 3-2 with thesweep.
Brookhaven 3, Raymond 2
In the first game, Brookhaven’s Brooks Hall doubled to scoreJosh Anderson from third for the 1-0 lead in the top of the thirdinning. Raymond came back to tie it 1-1 in the bottom of the thirdand went up 2-1 in the fourth.
In the sixth, the bases were loaded when Brookhaven’s ReggieSmith was walked and Josh Townsend scored the tieing run from thirdbase for a 2-2 deadlock. Anderson bunted to score Town send in thetop of the eight for the 3-2 win.
The Panthers were held to two two hits and the Rangers managedthree hits.
Posting the win in eight innings was Scotty Smith (1-0) witheight strikeouts and five walks. Dale Brewer absorbed the loss with14 strikeouts and six walks.
Hitting a double each for Raymond was Mike Lamp, Dale Brewer andTodd Elmore.
Brookhaven 16, Raymond 4
The Panthers’ bats came to life in the second game as theyouthit the Rangers 11-6 in the win. Raymond committed six errorsand Brookhaven made four errors.
Reggie Smith (1-1) picked up the win with four strikeouts andthree walks. Elmore was the losing pitcher with two walks.
Powering Brookhaven with a three-run homer and a single wasReggie Smith. Adam Ogden doubled and singled. Collecting a doubleeach were Scotty Smith, Hall, Cody Dunaway and Townsend. Singlingwere Sykes, Anderson and Corey Smith.
For Raymond, Elmore led with a double and a single. Hittingsafely were Dale Brewer, Terry Jones, Larry Morrison and MichaelRichards.
Brookhaven hosts Natchez tonight for a makeup game beginning at5 p.m. with the junior varsity and 7 for the varsity. The Panthersvisits Lawrence County in Monticello Tuesday for two games.
