Services for Doris J. Miller Bowman of Ferriday, La., are 11a.m., Saturday, March 8, at St. Paul Church with burial in FerridayCemetery. George F. West Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday from 10-11 a.m.,at the church.

Mrs. Bowman, 81, died March 2, 2003, at Riverland MedicalCenter. She was born in Jackson on Feb. 24, 1922, to Charlie Millerand Mary Cobb Miller.

She was a retired teacher. She had a bachelor of science degreein elementary education from Jackson State University. She taughtat Alcorn Preparatory School, Brookhaven Public Schools andConcordia Parish Schools before her retirement in 1986. She was amember of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she was a youth Sundayschool teacher, vice president of the ushers board, and recordingsecretary of the Ushers Association. She was a member of theLouisiana Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Star, and JacksonState Alumni Association.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her stepchildren, Ethel Bowman of Carrollton,Texas, Sarah Bowman of Ferriday, and James E. Bowman of Ft.Washington, M.D.; her sisters, Gerald Abrams of Rantoul, Ill., andVivian Gordon of New Orleans, La.; her brothers, Oscar Gordon Jr.,Walter Gordon of New Orleans, and Emory Gordon of Dover, Del.; andfour grandchildren; and one godchild; and a host of nieces,nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
