Delta eludes Co-Lin Wolves

MOOREHEAD – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves were onerun short of a tie and fell to the Mississippi Delta Trojans 7-6 innine innings of baseball action Saturday afternoon.

Co-Lin, coached by Keith Case, is 2-7 on the season. MississippiDelta improved to 3-3 with the win.

The Wolves scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning tocut the deficit to 7-6 but left the tying run on second base.

“We had six errors and a ton of base running mistakes,” saidCase. “We didn’t play good defense. Someone needs to step up. We’regoing to get over this hump.”

Lance Songy (1-0) posted the win with one strikeout, seven walksand three runs allowed on eight hits. Mitch Mangum (0-2) absorbedthe loss with one strikeout and four runs allowed on six hits.Tyler Perez started and went five innings with three runs allowedon eight hits and four strikeouts.

Powering the Wolves with a double and a single each were BenGoza and Aaron Guillot. Paris Dancy, Deigo Nuceto and Chase Coleybelted two singles apiece. Singling were Cayce Wallace and BenDavis.

Leading the Trojans with two singles and a double was JohnMorgan. Norwood Tyler and Brett Cerda collected three singlesapiece.

Co-Lin returns to Sullivan Field on Monday to host Kishwaukee,out of Malta, Ill. for a doubleheader, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday,the two teams will meet at 1 p.m., for a nine-inning matchup.

Brookhaven Academy meets Simpson Monday morning at 11 a.m. atSullivan Field.
