The roof is nearing completion as the main supports are almostin place, awaiting the addition of rubber roofing materials tocompletely protect the 1839 building.

Cornice work has been refinished around the building, creating afresh look in many areas that showed signs of decay just two monthsago.

“We’ve also been working on windows and the front porch,” saidScarbrough. “We’ve been trying to paint everything on the groundand then put it back up.”

Western Waterproofing has been working on the renovation of thebuilding’s bricks but has had some difficulties with theweather.

“It’s outside work, so it’s hard to do too much with all thisrain and overcast,” said Scarbrough. “If we can get about 10 daysof dry weather, we’ll be able to get a lot done.”

Scarbrough pointed out that despite the weather setbacks, theproject is still on track.

Town officials have been pleased with the work that has alreadybeen completed.

“You can now see how magnificent it’s going to be,” said MayorBill Tigner.

Area residents and school alumni are welcome to watch theprogress on the renovation, but are warned not to walk or driveonto the grounds because of potential hazards.

Wesson police officers had to arrest a trespasser recently aftervandalism was reported at the building.

Everyone is welcome to watch from the roadway as workerscontinue to secure the outside of the building in the first phaseof the renovation project, said Scarbrough.

“Hopefully they’ll start seeing some more changes soon,” hesaid. “It will look a lot better once we get some better weatherand get things going.”
