Co-Lin sweeps Crusaders

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves swept a doubleheader from visitingthe Spoon River Crusaders of Illinois in baseball action Thursdayon rain-soaked Sullivan Field.

Co-Lin won the first game 13-3 and the second contest 10-4.

Co-Lin (5-9) was scheduled to host Spoon River (1-10) for anine-inning contest today beginning 11 a.m.

Co-Lin 13, Spoon River 3

In the opener, Co-Lin jumped on the Spoon River pitching stafffor batting practice and took a 10-3 lead after three innings. TheWolves added three more runs for the the 13-3 finale at the end ofsix innings.

Mitch Mangum, a sophomore right-hander from Magee, was thewinning pitcher. Mangum (1-2) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, had 2strikeouts and walked 1 in facing 23 batters. Also seeing actionwas Michael Edwards in the sixth inning.

“Mitch pitched a good five innings,” said Co-Lin head baseballcoach Keith Case. “The weather was warmer. The warm weather isgoing to help him. It was his best outing this year.

Michael (Edwards) came in and located well,” continued Case. “Hehad a good outing.”

Powering the Wolves at the plate with a home run, a triple and adouble was former Brookhaven Academy standout Jeffrey Waycaster.Aaron Oberschmidt belted a triple and a double. Ripping a tripleapiece were Chase Coley and Thomas Garland. Casey Ginn and BrandonHubbard doubled. Paris Dancy went 2-for-2.

Co-Lin 10, Spoon River 4

The Wolves jumped on the Crusader early again to take an 8-2lead at the end of three innings. The teams scored two runs each asCo-Lin won its second game of the day.

Posting the win was freshman Tyler Perrett (2-1) of Hazlehurst.Perrett pitched 5 innings with 2 runs allowed on 4 hits, 3 walksand 3 strikeouts in facing 23 batters. Also seeing action was ChadLagrone in the sixth and Calen Cline in the seventh.

“Perrett pitched well in the second game.” stated Case. “He dida good job too. Waycaster and Coley swung the bats well. We wereable to make some things happen.”

Ben Goza drilled a home run for the Wolves. Coley collected atriple and was walked twice. Ginn doubled and singled. Wallacedoubled.

We ran the bases well,” added Case. “We made some things happen.Hopefully we can do some things today.”
