Co-Lin Lady Wolves split fastpitch twinbill at Hinds

RAYMOND – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves split a non-division fastpitchsoftball doubleheader with the Hinds Lady Eagles Tuesdayafternoon.

Hinds won the opener 5-1 and Co-Lin came back for a 5-4 win inthe second game.

Hinds tossed a three-hitter in the first game. Co-Lin pitcherKatie Rouch (5-1) allowed three earned runs on seven hits. Rouchrecorded three strikeouts and had no walks.

“The two errors cost us,” said Co-Lin head softball coach AllenKent. “We just couldn’t generate any offense. Their pitcher struckout 10 batters.”

Recording the only hits for the Lady Wolves were catcher CaseyWard, second baseman Ginny Dunaway and rightfielder KellyFuller.

Co-Lin led 4-0 until the sixth inning when Hinds tied the gameat 4-all. In the eighth inning, Dunaway singled in the game-winningrun. The Lady Wolves’ defense rose to the occasion in the bottom ofthe eighth when leftfielder Jennifer Doty gunned down a runner athome plate and catcher Casey Ward threw out a runner at thirdbase.

“Committing six errors and coming away with a win is nearlyunheard of,” stated Kent. “But we did what we had to in order toget the win.”

Winning pitcher Ashley Davis (4-1) allowed two earned runs andscattered five hits. Davis fanned two batters and walked four.

Danielle Ross and Rouch belted two hits apiece. Hitting safelywere Ward, Dunaway, Fuller, Doty and Elsie Nixon.

Co-Lin travels to Southwest for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April1.
