WESSON – Rebounding from an 8-3 loss in Tuesday’s opener, theCo-Lin Wolves rode the pitching of Kendall Poole to victory in the6-5 nightcap on Sullivan Field. Poole pitched a 7-hitter and theWolves rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure thewin.

Co-Lin is 11-16 on the season and the Warriors are 13-15. TheWolves, coached by Keith Case, host Pearl River Saturday for atwinbill, starting at 1 p.m., on Sullivan Field.

East Central 8, Co-Lin 3

The Warriors got a complete game from sophomore pitcher JarrodVaughn, a right-hander from Louisville. Vaughn (2-1) struck out 2batters, scattered 8 hits and did not issue a base on balls.

“We’ve been needing pitchers to step up for us,” said EastCentral coach Jake Yarborough. “Jarrod threw a complete game and hekeeps the ball down low.”

Yarborough, in his second year at the helm, is a Delta Stategraduate. He has 20 freshmen on his young squad. Only twosophomores were in the starting lineup for yesterday’s opener.

East Central overcame a 2-1 deficit to lead 3-2 in the fourth asthird baseman Michael Dunn launched a 3-run homer off the lightpole in left-center field. However, Dunn ran past Van Wilson on thebase path and was declared out and awarded a 2-RBI singleinstead.

Co-Lin realized a 3-3 deadlock in the fourth. An opposite fielddouble by Jeffrey Waycaster scored Cayce Wallace who reached on anerror. Dewayne Oberschmidt had provided a sacrifice bunt to advanceWallace.

The Warriors plated 2 runs in the fifth and led 5-3. A sacrificefly by Jim Tally gave them the lead at 4-3. Van Wilson sliced asingle to right and the Warriors went up 5-3.

In the sixth, the Warriors plated 3 more runs. A 2-out fieldingerror by centerfielder Casey Ginn allowed East Central to score itsseventh run. Destin Moore followed with a solo homer off Co-Linstarter Tyler Perrett, making it 8-3.

Perrett was replaced by Calin Cline with 2 outs in the fifth.Perrett (3-3) gave up 8 runs and 10 hits. He struck out 3 anddidn’t walk a batter.

“It has been typical of our year,” said Coach Case. “Tylerstarted out with three good innings. Then he started getting up inthe zone.

“Our hitters are still trying to pull every thing,” Casecontinued. “Their pitcher stayed on the outside of the plate.”

Co-Lin 6, East Central 5

Poole, a sophomore from Brookhaven, struck out 6 batters, walkednone and hit 1 batter in notching his second win of the season.Brent McMillan was the loser.

“East Central made a run at us but Kendall really stepped up thelast two innings,” said Coach Case. “He accepted the challenge. Itwas good to get a win.”

At the plate, catcher Aaron Oberschmidt collected 2 doubles forCo-Lin. His 2-out double in the fifth was decisive.

The game broke open in the fifth when Co-Lin scored 5 runs.Aaron Guillot, Diego Nucete and Ben Goza singled and Oberschmidtdoubled.

Ginn and Chase Coley singled for Co-Lin.

The Warriors got 2 hits apiece from freshman leftfielder DrewKenna and sophomore second baseman Jake Nester, including a homerfrom Nester.
