Brook swings big bats against Wesson Cobras

WESSON – The Brookhaven Panthers came out swinging Saturdayafternoon and knocked off the Wesson Cobras 10-3 in a varsitybaseball game. Darius Perkins slugged a home run and thirdbaseman/pitcher Scotty Smith went 3-for-4 as the Panthers raisedtheir record to 18-7 on the season.

“Brookhaven hit the ball early,” said Wesson coach PhillipKnight. “They had seven hits by the end of the third inning,” andled 9-2 on the scoreboard.

“We got hits but we couldn’t’ put anything together,” addedKnight.

Wesson got doubles from Joseph Langham, Chris Peets, and TomBurgess. Collecting singles for the Cobras were Ryan Williams,Peyton Warren and Russell Robinson.

Perkins hit a solo homer in the fifth. Reggie Smith, Adam Ogdenand Scotty Smith doubled. Josh Anderson and Perkins had 2 hits.Corey Smith singled for Brookhaven.

Brooks Hall was the winning pitcher with relief help from Smithwho took the mound in the fifth and claimed a save. Justin Smithabsorbed his second loss to Brookhaven this season.

In the JV game, Brookhaven beat Wesson11-9.

Wesson (14-7, 7-2) resumes play Tuesday, hosting Madison St.Joseph. The JV game starts at 5, followed by the varsity at 7.
