Rouch, Fallin smash homers; Lady Wolves sweep Southwest

WESSON – At the plate and on the mound, Co-Lin pitchers KatieFallin and Katie Rouch provided the heroics Wednesday in adoubleheader sweep of Southwest Mississippi Community College infastpitch softball. Fallin and Rouch both hit home runs over thefence while pitching the Lady Wolves to 6-1 and 7-5 victories overthe Lady Bears and securing No. 2 seeding in next week’s statetournament.

The state tournament begins Friday, April 25, at MississippiGulf Coast Community College in Perkinston. The Lady Wolves (22-7)will play Meridian, the Central Division’s top seed, in the openinground of the double-elimination tournament, starting at 11 a.m.Gulf Coast is the South Division’s No. 1 seed in the 6-teamtournament. Northeast is seeded No. 1 in the North.

Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent carries his team to LouisianaCollege in Pineville, Saturday for a scrimmage game.

Co-Lin 6, Southwest 1

“Katie Fallin had a huge game for us,” said Coach Kent. “Shepitched a complete-game, 2-hitter.”

Fallin struck out 7 Lady Bears and walked 2. At the plate, shehomered, tripled and accounted for 2 RBI.

First baseman Danielle Ross doubled. Casey Ward, Krystal Groom,Holli Hankins, Ashley Davis singled as Co-Lin broke a 1-1 deadlockwith a single run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Kelly Rhoadus was the losing pitcher.

Co-Lin 7, Southwest 5

“This was the ugliest game we played all year,” said Kent. “Wedid everything we could to give it away but Southwest just wouldn’ttake it from us.”

Kent’s Lady Wolves outhit Southwest 14-4 but they committed aseason-high 10 errors. “I’m still trying to figure out how wewon.

“If we don’t turn it around defensively, it will be a short stayfor us in the state tournament,” Kent added. “I’m was just glad toget that game over with.”

Rouch’s performance on the mound included 6 walks, 4 strikeouts,2 hit batters and 4 hits allowed. She slugged the go-ahead homer inthe fifth.

At the plate, Ward, catcher Elise Dixon and rightfielderJennifer Doty each had 2 hits. Ross, Fallin, Dunaway, Kelly Fullerand Holli Bass also hit safely.
