A storm that brought high winds and small hail into the countyWednesday night caused no major damage, according to city andcounty officials.

The city was hardest struck, with trees and limbs down onseveral streets, according to Clifford Galey, Lincoln County CivilDefense director.

“The only damage I know of are some trees down in the city,” hesaid.

Jimmy Furlow, city transportation director, said crews werestill roaming the city Thursday morning removing minor debris and afew fallen trees, but he was not aware of any homes or businessesthat had reported any damage.

He said he knew of fallen trees on Lindsey Street, south ofFirst Street, and South Jackson Street, near the Chickasaw Streetintersection, but was not sure of any other locations.

Jimmy Griffin, director of the street department, was on thescene at Lindsey Street and was unavailable for comment Thursdaymorning.

The storm brought small amounts of hail with it, Galey said.

“There was some hail in the city and going east to the countyline,” he said. “It was about the size of pennies, but I haven’theard of any reports of hail damage.”

In the county, Galey said he was aware of a fallen tree on OldHighway 51 and some individual power outages, but added that thosewere “taken care of pretty quickly.”

Weather forecasts the possibility of another stormfront strikingthe area today, he said.

“We have the chance of the same thing happening this afternoon,”he said. “I can’t say for sure, but there is that chance.”

The sheriff’s office and police department had received noreports of any major damage.
