Brook Academy’s Gatlin receives Souder Award

Anna Gatlin of Brookhaven Academy is the 2003 winner of the MPSADon Souder Award as the outstanding Female Student-Athlete in theMississippi Private School Association.

Gatlin led her Brookhaven Academy girl’s basketball team to the2002 and 2003 Class AA Girls Championship. Individual honors thisyear included being named All-tournament in the District AA, SouthAA and Class AA tournaments. She was chosen as one of the top tenfemale basketball players in the MPSA and was selected as a MPSASouth All-Star where she earned MVP honors. She also was named toThe DAILY LEADER’S All-Lincoln County Basketball Team after helpinglead the Lady Cougars to the Class AA State Tournamentchampionship.

Academically, Gatlin scored a 28 on the ACT. She was also namedthe Brookhaven Academy Star Student for 2003. She plans to attendthe University of Mississippi and pursue a degree in law.

Gatlin was presented the Souder Trophy at her commencementexercise on Friday night, May 16, by Wm. David Derrick, ExecutiveDirector of the MPSA. She is the daughter of Jeff and MelissaGatlin.

Finalists for this year’s award included Anna Fiser from JacksonAcademy and Catherine Sanford from Pillow Academy. The male winnerwas Will Dotley of Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

Past winners include Rich Richardson of Madison-RidgelandAcademy and Lynn Ross of Kirk Academy in 1993. 1994 winners includeRichard Lee of Jackson Academy and Robbie Veasey of SouthernBaptist Educational Center.
