Co-Lin hires Nobile to replace Young on baseball staff

WESSON – Co-Lin has hired Bryan Nobile to fill the position ofassistant/pitching coach with the Wolfpack baseball team. Nobilereplaces Pete Young who has taken a coaching position withSouthwest Mississippi Community College in Summit.

Nobile has served as a graduate assistant at Delta StateUniversity for two years under head coach Mike Kinnison. A DeltaState graduate, Nobile has a Master of Education degree in PhysicalEducation. Nobile was All-Gulf South Conference relief pitcher andAll-Regional during his playing days with the Statesmen. He alsoplayed baseball at Mississippi Delta Community College.

His nine saves rank fourth on the Delta State Career Saveslist.

“I am extremely pleased to have someone of Bryan’s calibercoming to Co-Lin,” said Co-Lin head baseball coach Keith Case. “Hehis been with a Delta State program for four years that has beenranked No. 1 in the nation.”

Case said Delta State coaches Mike Kinnison and Boo Ferris spokehighly of Nobile’s coaching skills. The Statesmen played in theWorld Series in 2001-02.

Nobile also has coached the Cleveland 76ers in summer league(age 15-16) baseball and taken them to the World Series.

Young, a former Mississippi State All-American from McComb,served five years on Case’s staff. He was in charge of pitchers andcatchers.

Young was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of high school butelected to play for Coach Ron Polk at Mississippi State where hewas a 2-time NCAA All-American. He was drafted by the MontrealExpos and spent six years in professional baseball, finishing withthe Boston Red Sox.

Butch Holmes is taking over as head coach at Southwest,replacing his brother Larry, who is taking a full-time teachingposition. Butch worked with Larry as an assistant for 11 years.Young will coach pitchers and have other duties at Southwest.

“Pete will have a greater role in our baseball program,” saidButch Holmes. “He is more like an associate head coach. I think heis the best pitching coach in Mississippi.”

Butch Holmes said he coached Young at McComb High from 1983-86.”Pete is an exceptional player and coach. I feel lucky to have himon my staff.”

Southwest advanced to the regional tournament this pastseason.
