Services for Marvin T. Babb Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., are 3p.m., Monday, June 30, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Gum Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, June 29, from 5-10 p.m., and Monday from 8a.m. to 3 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Babb, 44, died June 20, 2003 at Jacksonville. He was born inSulphur, La., on Oct. 31, 1958, to Marvin T. Babb Sr. and Willie M.Manuel.

He was a welder. He was a member of Gum Grove BaptistChurch.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Douglas Babb.

Survivors are his wife, Dianne Babb of Dripping Springs, Texas;his sons, Michael Babb of Fountain. Colo., Jason Babb and BrianBabb, both of Dripping Springs; his father and stepmother, MarvinT. Babb Sr. and Dorothy Babb, both of Lena; his mother, Willie MaeMeche of Lake Charles, La.; his brothers, Adrian Babb of Carthage,Mitchell Babb of Birmingham, Ala.; his sisters, Wilda Martin ofSmithdale, Peggy Carman of Jackson, and Rosemary Morse of Sulphur;his half brother, Johnny Babb of Lena; his stepbrothers, DavidMcKlemurry and Randy McKlemurry, both of Bogue Chitto, and MichaelMcKlemurry of Brookhaven; and his stepsister, Debbie Carpenter ofDenham Springs.

Ruth Bolian

Graveside services for Ruth Bolian of Canton, Ohio, are 11 a.m.,Monday, June 30, at Bogue Chitto Cemetery.

Mrs. Bolian, 83, died June 24, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center inCanton. She was born in Hinds County, Mississippi on Sept. 24,1919, to George Bryant and Mary Robinson Bryant.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church inCanton, where she served on the Usher Board and the DeaconessMinistries at Mt. Shiloh.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Henry D.Bolian; one brother and two sisters.

Survivors are her son, Clyde R. Murrell of Jackson; her sister,Versella Bryant of Jackson; two granddaughters; and fivegreat-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Elsie Moodie Haley

A private memorial service for Elsie Moodie Haley was held ather home in Columbus. Burial will take place in Friendship Cemeteryin Columbus at a later date.

Mrs. Haley, 91, died June 26, 2003 at her home, which waslovingly known as “Riverhaven.” She was born in Brookhaven to FrankBoyce and Margaret McGrath Moodie.

A native of Brookhaven, she was a former dance instructor andhomemaker. She attended the University of Mississippi. She was alongstanding member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, FrederickMcDonnell Haley Sr.; and her grandson, Haley Randolph Ball.

Survivors are her sons, Fred Haley of Columbus; her daughters,Kay Haley Carr of Columbus, Margie Haley Ball of Vicksburg, andSuzanne Haley Tannehill of Clyde, N.C.; and nine grandchildren and13 great-grandchildren.

Joe Howard Powell

Graveside services for Joe Howard Powell of Brookhaven are 11a.m., Monday, June 30, at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Visitation is Sunday, June 29 from 4-6 p.m., at Glenwood FuneralHome in Port Gibson.

Mr. Powell, 58, died June 27, 2003 at his residence inBrookhaven. He was born in Lone Oak, Texas, to Denton and HazelPowell.

He moved to Port Gibson in 1977, where he and his wife owned andoperated Helping Hands Janitorial Services. He was youth pastor ofJoel’s Place, an outreach ministry of New Christian FellowshipChurch. His greatest joy was working with young people. He and hiswife moved to Brookhaven in 2001 where they became a part ofAbundant Grace Ministries.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one niece.

Survivors are his wife, Lois “Jerri” Powell of Brookhaven; hisson, Joe Brent Powell of Covington, Ga.; his daughters, Tammi P.Daigle of Barlow, and Holley P. Rilko of Hattiesburg; his brother,James Denton Powell of Terrell, Texas; and three grandchildren,three nieces and four nephews.

Victor Sterling Sr.

Services for Staff Sgt. Victor Sterling Sr. of Brookhaven arenoon, Tuesday, July 1, at New Hope M.B. Church in Brookhaven withburial in New Hope Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday, June 30, from noon until the wake which isfrom 6-7 p.m. at Tyler Funeral Home.

Staff Sgt. Sterling, 75, died June 25, 2003 at King’s DaughtersMedical Center in Brookhaven. He was born in Brookhaven on March23, 1928 to Ernest Truvillion and Eva Nell Amos Truvillion.

He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, serving in theDominican Republican and Korea for many years. He attended UticaJunior College for barbering in 1968 upon his retirement from themilitary. He was employed at Byrd’s Barber Shop until his healthfailed. He was a member of New Hope M.B. Church where he served onthe Usher Board and was the contact person for the New HopeCemetery for a number of years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, ChristineJordan, Johnie Mae White and Lillie Mae Parker; and one brother,James Truvillion.

Survivors are his wife, Anna Lee Sterling of Brookhaven; hissons, Victor Sterling Jr., the Rev. Phillip Sterling, DonaldSterling and Earnest Sterling, all of Brookhaven; his daughters,Sarah Sterling-Willis of Las Vegas, Nev., and Phyllis S. Watkins ofBrookhaven; his brothers, Johnny Hue Truvillion of Milwaukee, Wis.,Amos Truvillion of Bogalusa, La., and Roosevelt Truvillion of SanFrancisco, Calif.; his sisters, Willie Till Beard of Lansing,Mich., Dorothy Truvillion and Donis Truvillion, both of Milwaukee,and Lurlean Collins of Lucenter, Wash.; and 15 grandchildren, sixgreat-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
