Services for the Rev. James Pierce Leggett of Sontag are 2 p.m.,Saturday, July 12, at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church withburial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from noon – 6 p.m., at WilliamsMortuary.
Rev. Leggett, 83, died July 9, 2003, at his residence. He wasborn in Lincoln County on July 6, 1920, to Bud Leggett and MaeOllie Porter.
He was a retired custodian from King’s Daughters Medical Center,and was a Navy veteran. He was a graduate of Alexander High School,and a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Estee MartinLeggett; his daughter, Dorothy Porter; two brothers; two sisters;and nine grandchildren.
Survivors are his daughters, Cola McGee, Myrtis Brown and MaryAllen, all of Sontag, Fannie Black, Helen Sheppard, ClemetineBlack, Irma Jean Smith and Nicole Martin, all of Brookhaven, andBetty Stingley of Goodman; his sons, J.C. Leggett of Meadville,Kenneth Leggett and Calvin Leggett, both of Sontag, and JessieLeggett and Sammy Leggett, both of Brookhaven; his sister, RuthieTurner of Wesson; his brothers, Prentiss Thomas of Massachusetts,Lenon Thomas and Arlee Thomas, both of Wesson, and Leroy Thomas ofCalifornia; 65 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; and a host ofnieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
