Graveside services for Sidney Myron Bowman of Plaquemine, La.,formerly of Brookhaven, are 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, at in RosehillCemetery.

Mr. Bowman, 51, died Aug. 21, 2003, at Riverwest Medical Centerin Plaquemine, La. He was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 8, 1951, toClifford D. Bowman and Aleene Russell Bowman.

He was a teacher at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, and was amember of the Baptist faith.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors are his mother, Aleene Russell Bowman of Brookhaven;and his aunts, Irene Thompson of New Hebron, Nell McGraw of PanamaCity, Fla., and Jimmie Collins of Monticello.

James Denman Case

Memorial services for James Denman Case of Myrtle, formerly ofLincoln County, are 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at FriendshipBaptist Church.

Clayton Eli Cupit Sr.

Services for Clayton Eli Cupit Sr., of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.,Sunday, Aug. 24, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial inNew Salem Baptist Church in Franklin County.

Visitation is Saturday from 5-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Cupit, 63, died Aug. 22, 2003, at VA Hospital in Jacksonafter a lengthy illness. He was born on Dec. 18, 1939, to ThomasEli Cupit and Ammie Burris Cupit.

He was co-owner of Cupit’s Service Company, and had worked atKing’s Daughters Hospital for 14 and a half years. He served in theAir Force from 1958-1962. He was an active member of FriendshipBaptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 16 years.

Preceding him in death were his father; and an infant sister,Margaret Cupit.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley Seale Cupit of the West Lincolncommunity; his daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Cupit Martin andhusband, Bob, of Edmond, Okla., and Angie Cupit Brown and husband,Mark, of Taylors, S.C.; his son, Clay Cupit Jr., of Bogue Chitto;his mother, Ammie Cupit of McCall Creek; his sisters, ClaudellJones and Nina Golman, both of McCall Creek, Doris Dillon of Bude,and Judy Smith of Denham Springs, La.; his brothers, W.L. Cupit ofBogue Chitto, and Tommy Cupit of Brookhaven; his grandchildren,Josh Martin, who like his grandfather served, is serving in theArmed Forces in Germany, Brooke Martin, Erin Brown, Meagan Brownand Alana Cupit.

Mary Ernestine West Gilliam

Services for Mary Ernestine West Gilliam of Bogue Chitto are 11a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gilliam, 92, died Aug. 21, 2003, at the home of Wendell andBurnita Thetford from heart failure. She was born in the PleasantHill community on Feb. 25, 1911, to Ernest J. and Mary BailessWest.

She was a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, and workedas a teacher for one year, and at Stahl-Urban Garment Factory andJ.C. Penney Co. After marrying John H. Gilliam on Nov. 25, 1941,they were stationed in Mississippi, California, North Caroline andSouth Carolina. In South Carolina, she was active in the BeaufortBaptist Church, and after moving to Brookhaven in 1980, was activein the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; threebrothers, Cardera L. West, Clyde Carroll West and Johnnie ClaudeWest; and a sister-in-law, Elsie West.

Survivors are her sisters and brothers-in-law, Burnita WestSmith Thetford and her husband, Wendell, of Bogue Chitto, and VelmaWest Bankston, and her husband, Ray, of Hermitage, Tenn.; herbrother, Marion Delma West of Hazlehurst; her sister-in-law,Margaret Gilliam of Covington, La.; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Eddie Joe Lambert

Services for Eddie Joe Lambert of Lumberton, Texas, are 1 p.m.,Friday, Aug. 22, at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home Chapel inJasper, Texas, with burial in Hancock Cemetery.

Mr. Lambert, 66, died Aug. 20, 2003, at his residence.

He was a security guard with Pinkerton Security, and a pipefitter out of Mid County Local 966. He retired from NationalAutomatic Sprinkler Company with 33 years service. He enjoyed woodworking and cooking deer for Christmas.

Survivors are his wife, Edith Woods Lambert of Lumberton, Texas;his sons, Johnny R. Bryan of Beaumont, Texas, Gary Edward Bryan ofLumberton, and Joe Steven Lambert of Nashville, Tenn.; hisdaughter, Rita Lambert Price of Brookhaven; his sister, BobbieLambert Martin of Brookhaven; four grandchildren; and twogreat-grandchildren.

Margaret Owens Pernell

Services for Margaret Owens Pernell of Meadville are 1 p.m.,Friday, Aug. 22, at Springhill Baptist Church with burial inPernell Cemetery . Marshall Funeral Home in Bude is in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Pernell, 90, died Aug. 17, 2003, at Franklin MemorialHospital. She was born in Whiteapple in Franklin County on June 6,1913, to Neal Owens and Dezzie Huff Owens.

She was a homemaker, and served on the mother board atSpringhill Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her mother-and-father-in-law,Marshall White and Richard Pernell.

Survivors are her brother, Houston Owens of Chicago, Ill.; hersisters-in-law, Margie Owens of Redford, Mich., and Lillie Owens ofChicago, Ill; a host of nieces and nephews; her special friends,Mr. and Mrs. M.C. (Eunice) Washington; and her godchild, EarlineWhite.

Catherin Holmes Rogers

Graveside services for Catherin Holmes Rogers of Brookhaven were10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 22, in Rosehill Cemetery. Harrigill FuneralHome is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rogers, 89, died Aug. 20, 2003, at his residence. She wasborn in Marion County on Dec. 17, 1913, to Benjiman Holmes and MaryBohme Holmes.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Baptist faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, JohnRogers.

Survivors are her daughters, Peggy Hedgepeth and Patsy Rogers,both of Brookhaven; her son, Ralph Rogers of Brookhaven; threegrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
