“I like playing center,” said Hoff. “There’s moreresponsibility. You have to call fronts on defense and beresponsible for the rest of the line.. You definitely have to beinto the game.”

The Chocs finished last season 4-6 under had coach Johnny Mills.Hoff said MC should be better this season, despite the loss of4-year starter Peyton Perrett at quarterback.

Offensive line coach John Williams came to MC from SimpsonCounty Academy. He has the luxury of three returning starters inthe offensive line. Blake Barnett (6-3, 260), a junior fromBessemer, Ala., and Hoff are the top prospects at center.

“We have two guys who can step on the field at any time and notlose a step with either one of them,” said Williams. “The problemI’ll have is keeping everybody happy.”

Williams said Hoff is a versatile athlete. “Kern is a smartplayer. He’s capable of playing either guard or center. He willwork hard every down. He will not make many mental mistakes.”

Williams said two transfers from Jones County Junior Collegeshould help reinforce the offensive line. On defense, Daniel Sisco,a true freshman from Loyd Star, hopes to get some playing time inthe front trench.

“MC is a great place and I really enjoy the campus,” said Hoff.”I’m hoping to make it into medical school.”

Hoff, 19, is majoring in biology at MC. Right now his priorityis beating Millsaps tomorrow night.
