Suspect charged in ‘pot’ bust

Authorities seized five marijuana plants Tuesday afternoonbehind a residence on Smith Lake Road and made one arrest.

Through intense investigation, authorities discovered themarijuana plants, which were 4-to 5-feet tall, in a wooded area at946 Smith Lake Road, said Dustin Bairfield, narcotics agent withthe Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Kevin Ferrell, 19, of that address, was arrested and chargedwith manufacturing marijuana plants. He is being held in theLincoln County Jail on a $20,000 bond.

“Any time you arrest someone for manufacturing, the potential isthere for them to be selling it,” said Bairfield.

Bairfield said the seizure would potentially prevent themanufacture of a few pounds of marijuana.

“Each plant, when they start budding, can produce in streetvalue what we call a pound,” he explained.

Officers with the Southwest Mississippi Narcotics Unit helpedsecure the scene and make the arrest Tuesday.
