Lincoln Countians can be proud of recent improvement in the areaof keeping litter picked up and off of roads and streets. Butthere’s still work to be done.

Last week, Keep Lincoln County Beautiful officials touted gainsreflected in the organization’s annual litter survey of selectedlocations in the city and county.

In the county as a whole, the survey showed a 23 percent drop inlitter. City results were especially good as the survey indicated a38 percent improvement.

The “Don’t Litter” message is being heard, although there’sstill enough litter on county roads and city streets to keepemployees, volunteers and others busy picking it up.

A cemetery, of all places, was reported strewn with beer bottlesand other debris that had to be cleaned up by city employeesFriday. And fast food containers and half-empty plastic sodabottles remain a common sight along county roads as motoristsapparently discard them before getting home.

While the KLCB survey shows the county far from the “extremelylittered” level, the area remains “slightly littered.”

No litter is the ultimate goal because any litter is too muchlitter.
