BA crushes Hillcrest

JACKSON – Junior guard Kelli Byrd pumped in 15 points, made 4steals and had 4 assists in leading the Brookhaven Academy LadyCougars to a 60-34 win over Hillcrest Christian Tuesday night.

In the boys game, Cole Hodges fired in 19 points to spark BA toa 59-45 win over Hillcrest.

The undefeated BA girls, coached by Barry Gray,improved to 4-0 on the season. BA roared to a 21-7 lead overHillcrest in the first quarter. At the half, BA commanded a 35-14lead.

Contributing to the BA win with 11 points was sophomore EmilyLangley. Mallory Logan netted 10 points. Amber Beeson and LaurenSmith collected 4 rebounds apiece.

In the boys game, Seth Davis fired in 15 pointsfollowed by Jonathan Winborne with 9 points. Alex Davis pulled down4 rebounds.

“We played pretty well,” said BA head boys coach Dale Watts. “Wehad the typical first-game shortcomings. We missed free throws andeasy baskets. The game was tight in the first half. We stepped itup in the third quarter.

“Cole Hodges did pretty good,” Watts continued. “Jeremy Winbornehad a good game. Overall we were okay.”

Chandler Pleasant netted 17 for Hillcrest.

Junior High Results

BA (3-1) dumped Hillcrest 39-20. Holly Case exploded for 21points, 11 rebounds and 7 steals for the visitors. Alex Grantfollowed with 7 points and 5 rebounds.

BA plays its first home games of the season Saturday, hostingRiverdale (La). The varsity girls play at 5 p.m. followed by theboys at 6:15.
