The Loyd Star Attendance Center campus will soon be a littlelarger, according to school officials.

Superintendent Perry Miller said at the Lincoln County SchoolBoard meeting Monday that he had been in negotiations with alandowner for some additional property next to the campus.

Annie P. Goss has offered to sell the district a 30-acre blocknext to the campus at $3,800 per acre.

“We feel like we can buy up to 10,” Miller said.

Board members agreed, and advised Miller to pursue thepurchase.

The board also considered three additions to the construction atthe Loyd Star, Bogue Chitto and Enterprise campuses.

During a walk through of the new Loyd Star classroom building,board members had expressed some concern about handicappedaccessibility during emergencies and requested the architect drawup another plan.

The building meets all federal handicapped codes but has onlyone handicap accessible entrance. Board members wanted more.

A price quote from Paul Jackson and Son Construction, the firmcontracted for the construction of the campus additions funded bythe bond issue, was for $9,006 and included additional sidewalk andhandicap accessible work at Enterprise, too.

Other additional work on the quote included additionalelectrical wiring at the Bogue Chitto cafeteria for $3,960, and theremoval of some dirt on the Enterprise campus at a cost of$3,000.

“The prices are a bit higher than I was expecting,” admittedBoard President Johnny Hart. “I would like to see a price breakdown on these.”

Except for the electrical work at Bogue Chitto, the quotes weretabled until the next meeting Dec. 16 to give the constructioncompany time to break down the figures.

The electrical work at Bogue Chitto was approved because theprice was about what was expected and because of the need at theschool. Additional equipment for the cafeteria is scheduled toarrive Wednesday, such as the dishwasher, and the wiring was neededto help relieve the workload on cafeteria employees.
