Coleman to run for Lady Rebels

Kenyata Coleman will be running for the Ole Miss Lady Rebelsnext year. The Brookhaven senior sprinter has signed a trackscholarship with the University of Mississippi, following in thefootsteps of BHS track coach Patrick Hardy.

A 400-meter state champion as a sophomore, Coleman has unlimitedpotential. She also anchors the BHS relay teams.

“Kenyata is a hard worker and she does not like to lose,” saidHardy. “She’s very coachable and a great team leader.”

Hardy, a former sprinter at BHS, ran the 100 and 200-meterdashes for Ole Miss from 1993-97.

Ryan O’Neal will coach Coleman at Ole Miss.

“Coach O’Neal has been looking at me since the 10th grade,” saidColeman. “Ole Miss is close to home.”

Coleman has been running the 400 meters since 7th grade. She wasrunner-up in the Class 4A state track meet last season.

“Hopefully I trained Kenyata in the right way so she knows whatto expect at Ole Miss,” said Hardy. He plans to enter Coleman andother BHS team members in several indoor track meets nextmonth.

According to Hardy, Coleman is the first female track athletefrom BHS to sign a senior college scholarship since distance runnerAdrieane Adams who signed with Southern Miss is 1992.
