W. Lincoln sweeps Bo’Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO — Guard Lauren Smith sank two free throws with 10seconds left to play, giving West Lincoln a 4-point lead and theeventual 48-46 Monday night win over the Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats.The Lady Bears were led by Brittnee Smith’s 11 points and 4rebounds.

In the Division 7-1A varsity boys game, Brooks Smith pumped in23 points and the Bears beat Bogue Chitto 54-48 in CalhounGymnasium. The Bears were minus second-leading scorer Tyler Smithwho was sidelined by an ankle injury.

The Lady Bears (8-4, 2-0) got 10 points, 10rebounds and 4 steals from guard Erica Shaw. Alicia Kennedy grabbed8 rebounds and Lauren Smith 7. Savanna Palomarez and Christine Hunteach had 6 rebounds.

“We played just good enough to win at the end,” said WestLincoln coach Lane Young. “Bogue Chitto played a lot better thanwhen we faced them the last time,” in last week’s Lincoln CountyRound-Robin Tournament at West Lincoln.

The Lady ‘Cats (7-4, 1-1) got 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 stealsfrom Meleah Brown. Candace Braxton added 12 points and 2 steals.Kimberlee Thomas collected 11 rebounds, 9 points and 4 steals.

BC playmaker Chastity Avants fouled out with 26 seconds left inthe third quarter. The Lady ‘Cats were minus guard Kia Porter whowas sidelined by a knee injury.

“I’m proud of my girls,” said BC first-year coach Jason Kennedy.”They played a lot better. This was a great game for bothteams.”

The Bears (5-7, 2-0) got support from Shane Lynch with13 points and 6 rebounds. They got 12 points and 2 assists fromLandon Case as they took a 28-22 halftime lead.

Smith scored the final 7 points from the free throw linefor West Lincoln.

“We made our free throws at the end,” said Coach Young.”My five starters played the entire game.”

Bogue Chitto (3-8, 0-2) got a game-high 25 points and 10rebounds from center Irrie Catchings. Aaron Gill had 10 reboundsand 3 assists. Nicholas Smith had 6 rebounds as the Bobcats trailed36-35 entering the fourth quarter.

Kennedy said he was disappointed with his boys. “Weplayed terrible and we could not get anything started. We forcedeverything throughout the game. My boys need to find someheart.”

Junior High Results

Bogue Chitto won the junior high boys game 26-23 asBlaine Roberts scored 10 points and Fred Tillman 8 for the Bobcats.John Buie netted 5 points.

West Lincoln got 9 points from Jeremy Byrd and 6 fromJamey Byrd.

The Lady Bears clipped Bogue Chitto 37-36 as TalashiaFells scored 10 points. Julie Case and Megan Neal each scored 8points.

The Lady ‘Cats got 16 points from Jessie Miller and 11from Ebonee Blackwell.
