The Wesson Board of Aldermen named an acting chief of police anddiscussed the needs of the department during their Tuesday meeting, according to officials.
Police Officer Steve Carlisle was appointed as the acting chiefof police to replace Lance Falvey, who had to resign earlier in theweek because of work conflicts.
Falvey and Police Officers John Whitaker and Kevin Cartwrightalso had to resign because new Lincoln County Sheriff Wiley Calcotehas said he did not want his deputies working for other lawenforcement agencies while working for him. The three Wessonofficers all work full-time for the Lincoln County Sheriff’sDepartment.
Carlisle said the board will accept applications for the vacantpolice positions until Jan. 15 and make their hiring decisions atthe Feb. 3 meeting of the board.
The board is considering both part-time and full-timeapplications.
In the meantime, Carlisle said, he was to meet with Mayor AltonShaw Wednesday morning to discuss the needs of the department andthe number of officers that would be needed.
Shaw stated earlier this week that the department still hadenough officers to cover all its shifts until more officers couldbe hired.
