Franklin splits with Jefferson

FAYETTE — Tamara Gant pumped in 18 points and made two stealsto lead the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs to a 50-44 district winover the Jefferson County Tigerettes Thursday night.

In the boys game, Jefferson County proved to be too much andhanded Franklin County a 52-43 defeat.

The Lady Bulldogs (7-2, 2-1) got added support from AshleyWeathersby with 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Alsoscoring 10 points was Victoria Hunt.

Franklin County jumped on Jefferson County 16-9 in the firstquarter and led 28-19 at halftime. Going into the final frame, theLady Bulldogs were in charge with a 39-29 lead.

“It was a great game,” said Franklin County girls coach CharlesMoore. “It is always good to beat one of the top teams in ourdistrict.”

For the Tigerettes, Lori Shorter and Neisha Gaynes led with 13points apiece.

Jefferson County 52, Franklin County 43

The Jefferson County boys were up 8-6 in the first quarter andwent on a 21-12 run on Franklin in the second quarter to take a29-18 lead at halftime.

Pacing Franklin County with 14 points was Jasper O’Quinn. ZachThomas led off the backboards with nine rebounds.

Chris Carradine directed Jefferson County with 13 points.

Franklin County visits district foe Port Gibson tonight.
