BOGUE CHITTO — Brookhaven’s Blanche Wilson scored only 1 basketduring her team’s game with Bogue Chitto Tuesday night. It would bethe game winner as time expired to give the Lady Panthers a 41-39win over the Lady Bobcats in Calhoun Gym.

Wilson, a 5-foot-7 sophomore point guard, finished with 5 pointsand 4 steals.

Bogue Chitto defeated Brookhaven 26-25 in the JV girls game.

Brookhaven 41, Bogue Chitto 39

The Lady Panthers (13-9) controlled the boards in the openingperiod as Anna Autman and Kristian McCray combined for 10 points.Brookhaven posted an 11-5 lead entering the second quarter.

Bogue Chitto’s Kia Porter reinjured her right knee with 5:56remaining in the first period. She had to be helped off the floorand did not return to the game.

The Lady Bobcats (12-6) outscored Brookhaven 9-5 in the second,but still trailed 16-14 at the intermission.

Brookhaven, coached by Billy Holmes, shot 5-for-6 from thecharity stripe in the third frame. Baskets by Autman, AshleyLeggett and Chiquita Rancifer (a trey) authored the Lady Panthersto a 28-21 advantage going into the final 8 minutes.

Bogue Chitto mounted a furious comeback in the fourth. Seniorguards Chasity Avants and Marley Porter (2 treys) led the charge.Porter’s last 3-point basket gave the Lady Bobcats a 37-35 led with1:07 left in the game.

Rancifer canned a free throw and Autman scored a basket to giveBrookhaven a 39-37 lead with under 25 ticks left on the clock. Onthe ensuing possession by Bogue Chitto, Avants took the ball thelength of the court and scored on a layup with under 11 secondsleft in the game.

After a timeout, Brookhaven inbounded the ball and Wilson tookthe ball to the right wing. Wilson, with her left foot on the3-point arc, launched her shot with under 3 seconds left on theclock.

“What a shot by Blanche (Wilson),” said Holmes following thegame. “She was 0-for-8 from the field and that was her onlybasket.”

Bogue Chitto outscored Brookhaven 19-13 in the fourthstanza.

“If we had played the first 3 quarters like the fourth, we wouldhave won the game,” said Lady Bobcat head coach Jason Kennedy. “Iam proud of the girls because they never gave up.”

Autman led all scorers with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals.McCray had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Portia Dickey had 10 reboundsand 5 steals. Dickey and Autman each had 3 assists.

Meleah Brown led Bogue Chitto with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4assists. Avants followed with 10 points, 4 steals and 3assists.

Brookhaven outrebounded Bogue Chitto 42-31. The Lady Panthersforced the Lady Bobcats into 27 turnovers while committing 28 oftheir own.

In the JV girls game, Tanesha Johnson tossed in a game-high 13points for Bogue Chitto. Brookhaven got 7 points apiece from CorenaBates and Katrina Banks.

Brookhaven host Division 6-4A foe Wingfield Friday, in SinclairGym. Bogue Chitto hosts Salem Friday.
