A memorial service for Dorothy Susanna Kirtley See of Wessonwill be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, at Wesson PresbyterianChurch.

Mrs. See, 81, died Jan. 26, 2004, at her residence.

She was an artist, musician and homemaker. She was a native ofOklahoma, graduating from Enid High School in 1940. She attendedLouisiana State University and Phillips University, receiving adegree in 1946 in Art History. Following graduation, she taught artin the Garfield County School System in Oklahoma and Punahou Schoolin Honolulu, Hawaii. She returned to Oklahoma to purse graduatestudies at Oklahoma State University, where she met her husband,Glenn. They married on Aug. 6, 1949, and settled down in Welch,Okla. In 1950, she moved to Grenada and began raising a family. Shetaught art in the Grenada Public School and Charleston SchoolSystems for several years. She was an active member of FirstPresbyterian Church and the Grenada Cotillion Club.

In 1964, the family moved to Clinton, where she taught Sundayschool and was a member of the choir at Mt. Salus PresbyterianChurch. She was a string bassist in the Mississippi SymphonyOrchestra for more than 20 years. She was a member of the adjunctMusic Department faculty at Mississippi College, and also taughtart at Clinton Academy and First Presbyterian Day School inJackson. She was a long-time member of the Clinton Study Club.After moving to Wesson, she became very active in the Wesson GardenClub. She also was a big fan of the Copiah-Lincoln CommunityCollege basketball teams and could be found on the front row at allthe home games. She was a member of Wesson Presbyterian Church. Sheloved children and young people. After retirement, she volunteeredto teach a class of elementary students at Wesson AttendanceCenter. She loved to quilt, and made quilts for all of her familyand friends or anyone who was especially nice to her children orgrandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, the Rev. Edwin andOlina Kirtley; two sisters, Mary Ann Kirtley and Frances Kirtley;and her brothers, Edwin Kirtley, James Kirtley and DavidKirtley.

Survivors are her husband, Glenn See of Wesson; her daughtersand sons-in-law, Suzi and Max Phillips of Taylorsville, and Pat andRon Hooten of Birmingham, Ala.; her sons and daughters-in-law,Steve and Mary See of Pattison, and Guy and Christina See of OakHill, Va.; her sisters, Pauline Goodman of Allentown, Penn., GwenPerkins of Burleson, Texas, and Gloria Bentley of Oldsmar, Fla.;and her grandchildren, Jason Thomas, Stefanie Thomas, KatherineThomas, Brooke Thomas, Bryan Hooten, Kirk Hooten, Claire Hooten,Cheryl See, Kathleen See, Taylor See and Madison See.

Memorials may be made to Mississippi Symphony Orchestra; HospiceMinistries, Brookhaven or Palmer Children’s Home.
