Pelahatchie’s winless boys team entered Tuesday night’s Division7-1A basketball game at Enterprise “0-for-something,” according toPelahatchie head coach Avery Nobles. On a freezing night, theChiefs made the long ride home a heart-warming experience afterbeating the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 60-54, sparked by BrianBester’s 20 points.

In the varsity girls game, Enterprise crushed the Lady Chiefs54-22, powered by sophomore post Alisha Mason’s 18 points and 13rebounds.

Enterprise resumes play Friday, hosting Vicksburg St. Aloysiusfor a tripleheader. A junior varsity boys game starts the action at5 p.m.

The Lady Jackets (7-16, 4-4) overwhelmed the visitors, taking a35-13 halftime lead. Coach Billy Vaughn’s girls carried a 44-16advantage into the fourth quarter.

Senior forward Vivian Lang followed Mason with 12 points and 7boards. Erin Johnson had 8 rebounds. Kaylin Burke had 4 assists.Deanna Albritton contributed 8 steals to the victory and KaceyRutland 5. Mason blocked 3 shots.

“We had a solid game,” said Coach Vaughn. “Deanna Albrittonbrought a lot of energy to the game and created some scoringopportunities.”

The Lady Chiefs, coached by Cory Myers have one win to theircredit this season. They only won one game last year.

The Chiefs came out blazing last night, sacking 4 treys in thefirst quarter and building an 18-11 lead. Bester had 3 of thetreys.

“We finally won a game,” sighed Coach Nobles, a Pelahatchieproduct. He coached both Pelahatchie teams last season and they hada combined victory total of just 2 wins.

The Chiefs outhustled and outshot Enterprise in the first half,taking a 35-23 halftime lead. The Jackets (1-21, 1-5), beatPelahatchie earlier in the season but were unable to double theirwin total last night, plagued by turnovers, missed free throws andpoor shooting.

Enterprise still managed a spirited comeback, cutting thedeficit to 11 points, 48-37, entering the fourth quarter. With 3:37left to play, Enterprise’s Andrew Williams hit a short jumper,reducing the Chiefs’ lead to 6 points, 52-46.

Pelahatchie got a field goal from Quincy Beeman, 2 free throwsfrom point guard Stanford Moore and a jumper from Willie Mosley fora 58-47 lead to secure the win.

“Pelahatchie shot it well early in the game,” said Enterprisefirst-year boys coach Ricky Gray. “We sat back on our heels and letthem spot shoot those threes.

“We are a young team and still making a lot of mistakes,” Graycontinued. “We are getting better and we’ve come a long way. Ourfans have given us a lot of support.”

The Jackets got 20 points from senior forward Corey Smith whomade 7 of 8 free throws. Smith also had 9 rebounds. Corey Everettadded 17 points and 8 rebounds but the Jackets missed the front endof five 1-and-1s in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Matt Floyd added 11 points and 8 rebounds to theEnterprise total.
