Services for Carl Edward Thornton of Smithdale were 2 p.m., Jan.31, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.Harrigill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thornton, 79, died Jan. 29, 2004, at Liberty CommunityLiving Center. He was born in Amite County on April 1, 1924, toBenjamin W. Thornton and Lena Wells Thornton.

He was a truck driver, and a World War II Army veteran. He was amember and deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was a Mason, anda member of Woodman of the World and American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Deborah AnnThornton; a son, Dalton Thornton; four sisters; and fourbrothers.

Survivors are his wife, Georgia Nell Thornton of Smithdale; hisdaughter, Peggy June Terrell of McComb; his son, Carl DavidThornton of Brookhaven; his sister, Annie R. Thornton Wallace ofBrookhaven; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
