Services for Carl Joseph Hughes Sr. of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Thursday, Feb. 5, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with burial inRosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Hughes, 81, died Feb. 1, 2004, at Veteran’s AdministrationMedical Center in Jackson. He was born in Holmes County on Jan. 18,1923, to Thomas J. Hughes and Mary Jane Jones Hughes.

He was an auto body repairman at Acme Body Shop in Meadville. Hewas a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of First Church ofGod – Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Martha JaneFreeman Hughes; and a son, Carl J. Hughes Jr.

Survivors are his son, Carl E. “Curley” Hughes of Brookhaven;his sisters, Margaret Hayes of North Port, Ala., and Mary FrancesHerring of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his brothers, Samuel L. Hughes,Charles D. Hughes and James N. Hughes, all of Tuscaloosa, Robert P.Hughes of Ocalona, and Thomas M. Hughes of Lewiston, Idaho; 12grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces andnephews.
