Dr. Sessums joins list of great area artists
A Brookhaven artist continues to use his talents for the enjoyment of others.
A monument unveiled Saturday in the Vicksburg National MilitaryPark was the latest on the growing list of sculptures designed by Brookhaven’s Dr. Kim Sessums. The monument commemorates black soldiers’ contributions during the Civil War.
The larger-than-life scale monument, the largest ever undertaken by Sessums, is an impressive sight and further testament to the doctor’s artistic abilities. Other art pieces made by Sessums includes busts of evangelist Billy Graham and Mississippi author Eudora Welty.
Sessums learned his craft while working with the late Bruce Brady, whose bronze work adorns many an office or living room in Brookhaven and around the country. Sessums is now making a name for himself in the art world.
Sessums joins Brady, noted painter Wyatt Waters and others on the list of artists with Brookhaven connections. In Sessums, this community’s tradition of developing gifted artists is alive and well.
