Services for Thad S. Bridges Sr. of Vicksburg are 11 a.m.,Thursday, Feb. 19, at M.W. Stringer Grand Lodge Temple in Jacksonwith burial in Pearl River Valley Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from noon until 5 p.m., at Tyler FuneralHome, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m., at M.W. Stringer Grand LodgeTemple.

Mr. Bridges, 54, died Feb. 12, 2004, at M.D. Anderson CancerCenter in Houston. He was born in Lawrence County on July 28, 1949,to Edgar Bridges Sr. and Willie Mae Bridges.

He was a business manager at Central Mississippi HealthServices, and he reopened the Arenia Mallory Health Center. He wasthe first black banker in the state of Mississippi with DepositGuaranty National Bank in Jackson. He was a member of Pearl RiverValley Baptist Church in Monticello, where he served as trustee. Hewas a 1967 graduate of McCullough Attendance Center in Monticello,and a 1971 graduate of the University of Mississippi’s School ofBanking and Finance.

Preceding him in death was his mother.

Survivors are his father, Edgar Bridges Sr. of Monticello; hiswife, Betty Joyce Mathis Bridges of Vicksburg; his daughter,Candice Mathis Bridges; his sons, Thad S. Bridges Jr., Nicholas L.Bridges and Michael Whitfield; his sisters, Erma Nell Magee, GoldaFranklin, Eleanor Bridges Brown, Carolyn Ross, W. Ann BridgesPeyton and Betty Jean Bridges Wright; his brothers, Alvin Bridges,Carvin L. Bridges, Edgar Bridges Jr., Louis D. Bridges and Amos D.Bridges; and two grandchildren.
