NATCHEZ — The Bogue Chitto Bobcats dumped the host CathedralGreen Wave 58-42 Friday night in the championship game of theDivision 7-1A Tournament.

In the consolation game, the West Lincoln Bears beat theMississippi School for the Deaf Bulldogs 50-43.

The Bogue Chitto boys (24-8) will host No. 4 Thomastown out ofDivison 6-1A Tuesday night in the first round of South State 1A.The West Lincoln boys (13-13) visit Scott Central. Game time is 7p.m.

“We played with a lot of character and heart and it showed inthis game,” said Bogue Chitto boys coach Jason Kennedy. “All myseniors stepped up and wanted to win. This is my first year and Iwouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”

The Bobcats led the Greenies 12-11 in the first quarter, 24-21at halftime and 37-31 going into the final frame. Bogue Chitto wenton a 21-11 run to secure the championship.

Powering Bogue Chitto with 22 points, nine rebounds and threesteals was Irrie Catchings. Michael Blackwell fired in 11 points,grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists. Gill finished witheight points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Cathedral got 17 points and five rebounds from Jonathan Jackson.Matt Goss finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.Turner Smith grabbed six rebounds.

“Bogue Chitto has a good team,” said Cathedral boys coach BobbyHolder. “BC’s coach has them executing real well. Bogue Chitto’sNo. 22 (Aaron Gill) scored 6 or 7 shots in a row and rebounded onthe offensive side. We couldn’t control that.

“But other than that, we matched up real well. As the game wenton, Bogue Chitto got comfortable.”

West Lincoln 50, MSD 43

In the boys consolation game, Brooks Smith pumped in 16 pointsand grabbed three rebounds to lead the Bears win. Landon Casenetted 11 points and grabbed two rebounds. Kevin King led off thebackboards with eight rebounds followed by Stephen Jones withseven.

“We started off hot in the first quarter,” said West Lincolncoach Lane Young. “MSD made some tough shots in the second quarter.We stayed close in the second half. We made our free throws and ranour offense really well.”

The Bears led the MSD Bulldogs 18-10 in first-quarter action. Athalftime, West Lincoln got behind MSD 26-23. In the second half,the Bears outscored the Bulldogs 27-17 for the win.

Directing MSD with 14 points was Ro’Derrick Brown. Paul Biggsnetted 13 points.
