Services for Fred Smith of Monticello are Tuesday, Feb. 24, at11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Oma, Miss., with burialin the Pleasant Valley cemetery. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is Monday from noon to 5 p.m. at the funeral home andTuesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Smith, 77, died Feb. 18, 2004, at his residence. He was bornin Lawrence County on Nov. 7, 1926 to Fess Smith and Velma DavisSmith.

He was a retired pulpwood hauler and a veteran of the U.S. Army.He was a member of the Greater Mt. Olive M.B. Church, where heserved as chairman of the deacon board and on the board oftrustees. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Oma VolunteerFire Department.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Raymond Wilks, adaughter Linda Winters, brothers R.J. Smith, Lee Smith, ChesterSmith and Robert Smith, and a sister Cora Bee.

Survivors are his wife, Beatrice Presley Smith of Monticello;sons Michael Presley and Lee Presley, both of Monticello, and EricPresley, of Hazlehurst; daughters Sharon Bennett, of Monticello,Shirley Jean and Carolyn, both of Jackson; a host of grandchildrenand three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
