William R. “Hank” Ahrend

Services for William R. “Hank” Ahrend of Pattison are 11 a.m.,Saturday, March 6, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with gravesideservices at 1 p.m. in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Union Church inJefferson County.

Visitation is Friday from 5-9 p.m., and Saturday from 9-11 a.m.,at the funeral home.

Mr. Ahrend, 59, died March 3, 2004, at University Medical Centerin Jackson of injuries sustained at his employment, Cooper Lightingin Vicksburg.

He recently completed 40 years service with Cooper Lighting(formerly Westinghouse). He was a veteran of the United States Armyand served in Vietnam from March 1969 until March 1970. He was alifelong resident of the Pleasant Hill community in CopiahCounty.

Preceding him in death were his wife Betty F. Graham in February2002; his parents, John and Leona Ahrend of Union Church; and hisbrother, Shirley Ahrend.

Survivors are his daughter, Aimee Ahrend of Hazlehurst; hisstepdaughter, Kim Palmer and her husband Med of Hazlehurst; hisstepson, Kenny Moody of Jackson; his three stepgrandchildren,Samatha, Elizabeth and Kathlyn Meece of Hazlehurst; his brothers,James Ahrend and his wife Wilma of Vicksburg, Ed Ahrend and hiswife Jimmie of Brookhaven, and Tom Ahrend of Pearl; his sister,Louise Hearnsberger and her husband Jimmy of Warren, Ark.; his auntEdna Cupit and her husband Thomas of Tupelo; his uncle, FrancisVarnado and his wife Loletta of Bogue Chitto; his nephews, Freddyand Randy Ahrend of Flowood, and Anthony Hearnsberger of Warren,Ark.; his nieces, Brenda Cranfield and her husband Tom ofVicksburg, Tammy Elliott and her husband Mark of Richland, Wa., KimOliver and her husband Spence of Purvis, and Cindy Hearnsberger ofWarren, Ark.; his great nephews, Matthew, Tyler and JosephCranfield of Vicksburg; his great nieces, Hannah Cranfield ofVicksburg, and Madelyn Oliver of Purvis; his father andmother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Services for Vanessa Denise Phillips-Eley of Brookhaven are 11a.m., Saturday, March 6, at Alexander Junior High School withburial in Rosehill Cemetery. Services will be conducted by theRevs. Charles Caston of Beulah Chapel and Winfred Frazier of CenterStreet Church of Christ.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 5 p.m., at Marshall FuneralHome in Brookhaven.

Mrs. Phillips-Eley, 32, died Feb. 29, 2004, at her residence.She was born in Lincoln County on Feb. 8, 1972, to Alice Phillipsand J.T. Phillips.

She was a disabled nurse. She was a recipient of the Grace UnderFire Award.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, DoraVaughn Byrd, and James and Myrtle Lee; her paternal grandfather,Ebb Phillips; two cousins, Sunday and Stacy Phillips; an uncle,Elbie Phillips; and a nephew, Marcus Bledsoe.

Survivors are her parents; her stepmother, Barbara Phillips; herhusband, Andrew Eley; her son, Fredrick Jamall Calcote; hergrandmother, Estella Phillips; her sisters, Sophia Lee, KimberlyPhillips, Christy Smith and April Lenoir, all of Brookhaven,Theresa Phillips of Jackson, and Orlantha Washington of Pearl; herbrothers, Donald Phillips of Brookhaven, and Gary Bell and JamesCalvin Lee, both of Fairfield, Calif.; her four brothers-in-law;her three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts,uncles, other relatives and friends.

Carey Thomas Gerald

Services for Carey Thomas Gerald of Roxie are 4 p.m., Friday,March 5, at Marshall Funeral Home in Bude with burial in KnoxvilleMethodist Cemetery.

Mr. Gerald, 88, died March 4, 2004, at Natchez RegionalHospital. He was born in Franklin County on Nov. 27, 1915, toThomas Brothers Gerald and Eunice Kirkland Gerald.

He was an offshore crewboat captain. He was a member of theBaptist faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his sisters, Ione Shell of Roxie, Rosa Spell ofYazoo City, Winnie Hewitt of Liberty, and Camille Reid of Vidalia,La.; his brother, Howard Gerald of Temple, Texas; hisstepdaughters, Nina Whitehead and Mary McGlothlin; and a host ofnieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lillie Mae Fleming Wardley Lee

Services for Lillie Mae Fleming Wardley Lee of Bude are 1 p.m.,Sunday, March 7, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Monroewith burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday from noon until 5 p.m., at MarshallFuneral Home in Bude.

Mrs. Lee, 86, died March 2, 2004, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.She was born in Oldenburg on July 4, 1917, to Robert and Mary LizaScott Fleming.

She was a homemaker. She was president of the church mission, amother of the church and a member of the church choir. She was amember of the Order of the Eastern Star and the NationalAssociation for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, foursisters, two brothers and a grandson.

Survivors are her children and their spouses, Julius and LillieWardley, and William Wardley Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Gloria Lee ofSan Jose, Calif., Dorothy Stallworth of Menlo Park, Calif.,Stellare and Freddie Griffin of Mt. View, Calif., Sarah Lee ofBude, Billy and Renee Lee of San Jose, Diane and Rowan Winston ofHarvey, La., and Ruby Chaney of New Orleans, La.; her brother,Monroe Fleming of New Orleans; 24 grandchildren; 50great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
