Lady Wolves in first loss

WESSON — East Central Community College surprised Co-Lin’s LadyWolves 5-3 in Monday’s nightcap, handing Co-Lin its first fastpitchsoftball setback in 10 games. Co-Lin had won the opener 8-0 behindthe 3-hit pitching of Katie Rouch.
Co-Lin (9-1) resumes play Thursday, hosting Itawamba CommunityCollege for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
“We just couldn’t get anything going offensively,” said Co-Linhead coach Allen Kent, reviewing his team’s first loss of theseason. “We weren’t patient at the plate and we hit 12 flyballouts. Anybody in this league can catch a popup.”
Co-Lin 8, East Central 0
Rouch struck out 3 batters and walked 1 in the opener. The LadyWolves plated 4 runs in the first inning and led 8-0 after thethird.
“Katie had a very good outing for us,” said Kent.
At the plate, Co-Lin leftfielder Jennifer Doty led the way,going 3-for-3. She doubled and collected 2 RBI.
Third baseman Courtney Angel doubled, singled and scored 2 runsfor Co-Lin. Second baseman Ginny Dunaway singled twice, walked anddrove in a run. Shortstop Jessica Melton had an RBI triple.
Rouch, Holli Bass and Elise Dixon singled and scored.
The Lady Wolves played solid defense and committed only 1 errorin their first game since Spring Break.
East Central 5, Co-Lin 3
The Lady Warriors (6-6) finished with 10 hits. Losing pitcherAshley Davis struck out 3 and walked 2.
Co-Lin only managed 6 hits. Freshman rightfielder Angie Davisled the Lady Wolves with 2 singles and 1 RBI. Rachel Breauxtripled. Angel, Dixon and Dunaway also hit safely.
A 3-run sixth inning lifted the Lady Warriors to victory.
