W. Lincoln Lady Bears 5-0 after taking Wesson

WESSON — The West Lincoln Lady Bears swept Wesson’s Lady CobrasMonday night in a fastpitch softball doubleheader. West Lincoln wonthe opener 11-1 and the nightcap 15-5 to remain undefeated in fivegames.

West Lincoln resumes play Wednesday, hosting Bogue Chitto for a4 p.m. varsity makeup game. Loyd Star visits West Lincoln Thursdayand Bogue Chitto hosts the Lady Bears Saturday.

“We had solid pitching and our hitting is a little bit better,”said West Lincoln coach Luke Addison. “Error-free defense winsgames.”

West Lincoln 11, Wesson 1

Heather Huff was the winning pitcher in both games. In theopener, Huff struck out 3 batters and did not issue a base onballs.

Losing pitcher Stacy Lowery fanned 6 batters and walked 6.

At the plate, West Lincoln took an 8-0 lead in the third inning.A triple by Savannah Palomarez and 2 singles by Lauren Smith ledthe victory. Brittany Smith, Emily Richardson, Shelby Lofton,Carrie Fauver and Huff singled.

Fauver sustained a led injury when she was sliding into homeplate.

The Lady Cobras got a third-inning homer from Sam Ellison Lowerytripled. Julie Berry and Courtney Martin singled.

West Lincoln 15, Wesson 5

Huff fanned 3 batters and walked 3 as West Lincoln won in 5innings. A 3-run fifth evoked the 10-run rule.

Losing hurler Bethany Dykes struck out 4 batters and walked 7 asthe Lady Cobras fell to 1-8 on the season.

“We didn’t play well at all,” said Wesson coach Ronald Greer.”We hit the ball well in only one inning and we made too manyerrors. We need to do a better job of coaching.”

Palomarez slugged a 4th inning homer and so did teammate AliciaKennedy. Britney Smith tripled and doubled. April Kennedy singledtwice. Huff, Lauren Smith and Richardson also hit safely.

Ellison homered and singled for Wesson. Bethany Dykes and MonicaGarcia tripled and doubled. Courtney Martin singled twice andLowery doubled.

Both teams made 2 errors in the nightcap.
