Services for Elmer “Red” Nettles of Brookhaven are 3 p.m.,Thursday, April 22, at Gum Grove Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at BrookhavenFuneral Home, and from 2-3 p.m., at the church.

Mr. Nettles, 88, died April 20, 2004, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. He was born in Franklin County on Dec. 23, 1915, toAdam Nettles and Lizzie Lee Nettles.

He was a retired soil conservationist. He was a member of GumGrove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife,Renodell “Dee” Nettles; and his brother, Grover Nettles.

Survivors are his wife, Lucy Nettles of Brookhaven; his daughterand son-in-law, Myra Lynn and Ben Smith of Toledo Bend, La.; hisson and daughter-in-law, Adam E. “Abb” and Camellia Nettles ofBrookhaven; his stepchildren, Faye Allred of Summit, Ray Hall ofZachary, La., Gay Leggett of McComb, Tim Hall of Bogue Chitto, andVersie Hall Jr. of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, Stacy Emfingerand Kristi Hux; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Cameron, Hayden andAbigail; and 13 stepgrandchildren.
